Police launched a probe after claims of an incident at a park in Broughty Ferry, Dundee between 5pm and 6.30pm on Saturday.
Detective Inspector Gail Hill said: “We understand this has been a distressing incident for those involved and an emotive incident felt by the whole local community.
“I would ask now that the public act responsibly and are mindful to the ongoing live legal proceedings in this case.
“I would like to thank the community and all who assisted while our investigations have been ongoing.”
Police told residents patrols will be stepped up after the alleged attack at the weekend.
DI Hill earlier called for help from locals, and said: “We are thoroughly investigating to establish the full circumstances.
“The public can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.
“If you were at or near the playpark on Saturday afternoon and took any family photos or videos, these could prove a great help to our inquiries.”
