Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire received the most Twitter abuse out of all Premier League players previous time, according to a report.
Ofcom commissioned researchers at the Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for details science and artificial intelligence, to analyse tweets sent in the course of the first five months of the 2021-22 football period.
Their examination has proven that there have been 60,000 abusive posts out of the 2.3 million tweets that were revealed in the initially half of past season.

The report outlined an abusive tweet as a concept that “threatens, insults, derogates, dehumanises, mocks or belittles a player” and also incorporates “slurs, adverse stereotypes, excessive use of profanities and indignant emoji”.
50 percent of the abuse was directed at 12 players with eight of them Manchester United players. More than 300 abusive tweets are sent to Leading League footballers each individual day.
“These findings lose light on a dark facet to the wonderful sport,” Ofcom director for broadcasting and on line articles Kevin Bakhurst mentioned.
“Online abuse has no position in activity, nor in wider society, and tackling it involves a workforce effort and hard work.”
There were being two peaks in the abusive tweets. The 1st was when Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United on August 27 2021 when he obtained 3,961 abusive messages.
The next peak was when Harry Maguire tweeted an apology immediately after Manchester United’s 2- defeat to Manchester Town on November 7. There have been 2,903 abusive tweets sent.

Other players obtained large volumes of abuse following a “result in”.
