Jiakun, a renowned developer and architect, has compiled an impressive list of notable works that showcase his creativity and deep understanding of urban design. In a Fields of观察, he described his approach as being less about niceness and more about understanding the local conditions while taking a careful and deliberate approach to design. “I don’t want to have a very clear or obvious style that can be recognised as mine just at a glance,” he recalled. “I take a more methodological and strategic approach. I hope that when I go to a specific place, I can use my methodology and strategy to adapt to local conditions. I like to fully understand the place first, and then look for problems,… and then refine, and finally create my work.”Liu Jiakun’s work is both an architectural statement and a catalyst for new life, reflecting his deep affection for China’s rich architectural heritage. For example, his mysterious clock museum in Chengdu features a grand circular courtyard that evokes the timeless elegance of a sundial, while his famous brick museum in Suzhou distills the essence of brick architecture.
