Marilyn Manson Dismisses Lawsuit Against Evan Rachel Wood and Will Cover Legal Costs

The ongoing legal saga involving shock rocker Marilyn Manson and his former fiancée, actress Evan Rachel Wood, has reached a new phase with Manson agreeing to drop his lawsuit against Wood and pay her attorneys’ fees. This decision comes after a Los Angeles County judge significantly pared down Manson’s original 2022 suit, in which he accused Wood and another woman, Ashley Gore, of fabricating and promoting allegations of sexual and physical abuse. Manson’s attorney expressed satisfaction with the ruling, stating that Manson had fought a long and public battle to assert his truth, and was now prepared to close this chapter of his life. This settlement also comes amid a four-year criminal investigation that still remains unresolved.

The lawsuit had seen Manson alleging that Wood’s public claims of abuse were unfounded and intended to sabotage his career. Manson’s suit argued that Wood used deceptive tactics to convince others to make claims against him, including an alleged fabricated FBI letter. Wood’s legal team rejected any notion that the terms of the settlement should remain confidential, in line with their stance that Manson sought the lawsuit as a means to diminish the credibility of his accusers. The impact of Manson’s lawsuit on his public image and career, especially in the wake of the #MeToo movement, has been significant, likened to a publicity stunt that ultimately backfired.

One crucial aspect of the settlement is Manson’s agreement to pay nearly $327,000 in attorney fees to Wood, a financial burden that signifies a shift in the dynamics between the two parties. Notably, Manson still faces a criminal investigation concerning allegations made by various women, including actresses like Esme Bianco, who have publicly voiced their claims of abuse. This criminal inquiry, which has seen delays and criticisms for its slow progress, adds further complexity to the ongoing narrative surrounding Manson, as it hangs over him like a cloud of unresolved allegations.

Evan Rachel Wood has long been a vocal advocate for victims of sexual abuse and began sharing her own story in 2017, later identifying Manson as her abuser in a public Instagram post in 2020. The relationship between Manson and Wood spanned from their coupledom in 2007 to a brief engagement in 2010. During this time, Wood has consistently portrayed their relationship in a negative light, directly attributing emotional and physical trauma to her experiences with Manson. Her testimonies sparked dialogues around abuse and led to more individuals coming forward with their own allegations against him, exacerbating Manson’s struggles in the public eye.

Manson’s original lawsuit contained numerous allegations of defamation and emotional distress. The court dismissed several key elements, including claims regarding the disputed FBI letter and allegations that Wood and Gore concocted a strategy to manipulate other women into making abuse claims against him. However, certain allegations remained pending, particularly those against Gore, which outlined serious accusations involving hacking and fabricating evidence against Manson. Legal moves against Gore had previously resulted in a separate $130,000 fee that Manson was required to pay.

In summary, this resolution hints at a potential turning point for Manson as he seeks to navigate the complicated landscape of his career amid significant scrutiny and ongoing legal woes. The settlement with Wood could suggest a desire on his part to move on while also signaling a considerable loss in the battle to regain control over his public narrative. Meanwhile, the unresolved criminal investigation looms large, leaving Manson in a precarious position as he attempts to reconcile his past actions with the relentless public backlash fueled by the #MeToo movement and the voices of survivors seeking justice. The outcome of the investigation could very well shape Manson’s future, both personally and professionally, potentially culminating in further legal challenges or changes to how he is perceived in the entertainment industry.
