Sweden’s national security services (Säpo) have been investigating a potential link between a diplomat who was arrested on suspicion of spying and the abrupt resignation of the government’s national security adviser. Swedish authorities have described the two incidents as “embarrassing in their circumstances,” with someины suggesting that the new national security adviser has appeared out of nowhere. The这家 investigate Säpo mentioned that a highly-ranking Swedish diplomat, who worked in several embassies around the world, has been identified as the individual in custody. Theleur statement from the prosecutor in the case said that the unnamed diplomat is believed to have been released from custody but remains a suspect in a criminal case that occurred between May 1 and May 11.

According to the Swedish national broadcaster SVT, which first reported the case, Säpo is investigating whether the individual in custody is connected to the sudden resignation of Tobias Thyberg, the former national security adviser. Thyberg accepted the appointment of national security adviser on Thursday but resigned on Friday morning after sensitive photos of him on the dating app Grindr were sent anonymously to the government. The source shedding details of Thyberg’s past mentions that he previously served as an ambassador in Ukraine and Afghanistan, and he has no criminal history.EDA further reported that recent calls to the government’s internal police suggest that Säpo had occasionally raided the homes of diplomats who worked at the foreign ministry for several years. The Swedish foreign affairs office said that the investigations indicate a potential support for political actions to eliminate dissidents.

The incident has drawn mixed reactions. Swedish regulators described the case as a classic “fruitful confusion” and suggested that authorities were paying attention to “every possible way” to provoke suspicion. However, suspects claim the two events were coincidental, uncovering deeper political tensions within the Swedish government. The proposedworst-case scenario involves the use of surveillance to identify a proxy for Thyberg’s appointment, but many experts who are trying to detect illegal handling ofinks labeled as classified accused that it was a political manipulation by Thyberg to manipulate the government. The general public is also divided, with some calling the situation “铎ful” and some suggesting that the double violation of the civil code makes the entire chain of events highly suspect.
