The two young holidaymakers ventured into the sea despite warnings for severe bad weather
Four of the young women managed to get out of the water with some help and were uninjured, but the other two ran into difficulty and had to be rescued from the waves by emergency services.
The 25-year-old woman was in cardiorespiratory arrest when she was pulled from the water but was resuscitated by officers of the Manacor Local Police and health personnel. She was transferred to the Son Espases de Palma hospital in a critical condition and sadly died a short time later.
The other victim, aged 23, died at the scene.
