Her star was smashed up and broken on Sunday morning
The star that Spanish actress Penélope Cruz has on the ‘Paseo de la Fama’ or Walk of Fame in Madrid was vandalised last weekend, smashed to pieces with letters from her name being taken away.
The star, which is on Calle Martín de los Heros in Spain’s capital, was partially destroyed in the early hours of Sunday June 12.
Of the 25 stars on Madrid’s Walk of Fame, the one for popular Spanish actress Carmen Maura had already disappeared some time ago, and the ones for actor Javier Bardem, (husband of Penélope Cruz) and director Luis García Berlanga are partially damaged.
The idea to first start a Spanish Walk of Fame came from Jesús Robles, one of the owners of the Ocho y Medio shop, who died in 2013 as a result of cancer. “We rasied the idea and met several times with the district councillor. There were the cinemas opposite, the street had been pedestrianised for a short time. It seemed perfect,” said María Sylveiro, Jesús’ widow and manager of the bookshop
It is hoped the damaged and missing stars will be repaired and replaced soon.
