Cool down in Spain this summer with some of the more “healthy” ice cream options
To this end, the Organisation of Consumers and Users (OCU) has drawn up a list of their three top ice cream picks for the summer, all of which they consider relatively “healthy,” at least from a nutritional point of view.
1. Hurricane (Lidl)
The famous German chain supermarkets sell this Gelatelli brand of milk ice cream for just 1.69 euros for a box of seven. Good for the pocket, even better for your waistline since each bar, which features several fruity layers, contains just 105 kcal per 100 gram, and has a moderate Nutriscore rating of C.
2. Pirulo (Nestlé)
This well-known treat is slightly healthier with a B Nutriscore rating and comes in a pack of five for 4.50 euros. Sold in all the major supermarkets in Spain, Pirulo has just 70 kcal per 100 grams. It’s made with water, sugar syrup and fruit juices so on the other hand, the sugar content is pretty high at 16g per 100.
Twister (Frigo)
This iced fruit lolly has been around for decades and is definitely a solid summer classic. In supermarkets like Dia you can pick up a box of 8 for 4 euros and the refreshing treat will set you back a meagre 38 kcal per 100 g, although it’s also only received a C rating from Nutriscore.
