USA: Britney Spears, the pop star of the US, proclaimed that she wouldn’t be performing as her father controls her career because of the conservatorship signed in 2008.
Recently, she posts a quote on her Instagram handle while she says, “I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think.”
Britney Spears has not performed amongst the public since 2018; she says that she’d prefer to share videos from her living room rather than from the stage of Las Vegas. In addition, she speaks about her conservatorship, saying that it killed her dreams and has left her with hope.
The conservatorship case was indeed a controversial one. First and foremost, for all those who don’t know about conservatorship, it is granted by a court for a person who is not in a state of making and handling their own decisions due to dementia or mental illness.
Jamie Spears, the father and the one who holds conservatorship of Britney, is accused of abusing his daughter by forcing her to do drugs and controlling her life. However, the lawyer argues that Jamie is innocent as he is dealing with his health issues.
The court had granted a temporary conservatorship but was extended, eventually. In addition, there was a trending campaign known as #FreeBritney started by her fans who disagreed about the conservatorship. The movement gained lots of importance when she canceled her Las Vegas Residency and entered a mental health center in 2019 due to emotional illness and stress. However, her fans still believe that she was forced to stay at a mental illness center so that the conservatorship still lasts. In addition, celebrities such as Miley Cyrus, Paris Hilton, and Bette Midler supported Britley and her fans’ campaigns.
After all the chaos, the singer, herself, requested to withdraw the conservatorship by placing her allegations against her father. She includes that her father controls her personal life in all possible ways by opposing getting married, pregnant, and having more children. In addition, she says that the conservatorship is harming her more than she could imagine and claims that she deserves a good life.
Britney’s lawyer was asked to file an official petition by the judge to end her conservatorship. But, her father’s lawyer said that Jamie Spears is feeling sorry to see his daughter suffering pain. However, Britney’s father is the only person in charge of her $60m estate.
Recently, Brittney has appointed a new lawyer, and it is said that the upcoming court hearing is scheduled in Los Angeles on 29 September, after she files a formal petition to the court.
