Which? Testing Sun Creams for the Heatwave
Which? magazine recently conducted an insightful evaluation of 15 sun creams to determine their suitability for a heatwave. The publication highlighted two losing blends as standouts, which have since undergone a detailed feedback process.
Considering a heatwave, Which? tested a variety of sun creams, including products from budget retailers like Morrisons and supermarkets such as Ultrasun. The results revealed two products that failed key safety tests, particularly targeting the SPF (Sun Protection Factor) and UVA (UVA was for sunburn prevention) levels. These tests were carried out by the consumer protection agency, ensuring a fair evaluation.
Morrisons’ sun spray, costing £3.75 for a 200ml bottle, ran into significant issues. It only achieved an SPF score of 20, failing to meet the required SPF30 standard. This despite passing the UVA test. Meanwhile, Ultrasun’s receipt of the lotion satisfied the SPF requirement but fell short of the UVA minimum of 40, making both options unsuitable for the intended heatwave.
The industry’s integrity is under strong scrutiny in such an extreme weather condition. Which? emphasized the importance of stringent testing protocols and encouraged a third-party independent evaluation. This process not only reaffirmed consumer trust but also highlighted the need for standardized safety guidelines for products intended for utmost security.
Two of the winners—both from budget brands—_passed both tests. The most notable was Aldi’s Lacura Sensitive Sun Lotion SPF50+, which not only met but exceeded the SPF and UVA thresholds while avoiding sunburn. Other budget-friendly options, like Lidl’s Cien Sun Spray 30 and Boots Soltan Protect & Moisturise lotion, also performed well.
Which? praised these brands for their commitment to quality, especially in a challenging season. The Mirror published a story highlighting the impact of the heatwave on consumers, noting that the testing Rogered many brands into action. As a result, both budget brands and supermarket retailers have seen the册 significantly enhanced.
In a bid to reduce the reliance on expensive, nonathering products, Which? introduced offers to ofrec the best value to budget-conscious shoppers. With the Mirror in on the action and recognizing the brands’ proactive measures, the sun cream industry continues to navigate the complexities of heatwave protection.
