The child and a woman drowned as their illegal boat was approaching the Canary Islands from Morocco
A Moroccan man has been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands for piloting an illegal migrant boat which resulted in the death of a one-year-old baby girl and a woman.
The captain of the boat has been convicted of a crime against the rights of workers and two crimes of reckless homicide. He has also been ordered to pay a total of 165,000 in compensation to the relatives of the two victims.
