FRS reported in a statement on Sunday morning that the accident occurred shortly after the ferry, carrying 35 passengers and 12 crew members, left the port of Ibiza at 9:30pm. Throughout the early hours of the morning, rescue crews worked to evacuate those on board. Nineteen passengers were transferred to the Can Misses Hospital, two of them by helicopter in a serious condition. Another six people with minor injuries were taken to the Clinica del Rosario.
The two cases initially assessed as being the most serious were both children. The first 10-year-old boy in the Paediatric ICU is considered serious yet stable while the other, a 12-year-old, has since been discharged.
Of the remaining injured, only two 41-year-old men and a 32-year-old woman remain in hospital due to multiple injuries sustained.
All of the crew members remained on board until the passengers had been evacuated, but now only the captain and four others are on the ferry as they must complete a plan for relaunching the vessel as soon as possible according to protocol.
