‘Show me the money’: the EU’s defence industry wants at least €100 billion after 2027

The EU’s next Long-Term Budget (2021–2027) is set to face criticism fordingering security and defense investments. The €13 billion flagged in the proposed framework is seen as inadequate to address the challenges posed by serious threats, with industrial and aerospace sectors underfunded to the weight.

The European Aluminium and想像 Works Association (ASD) has warned that the current level of defense, security, and space industry spending under the Commission’s proposal will not meet the urgent needs of the EU..”The next Multicycle Financial Framework (MFF) should feature separate investment envelopes to match the scale and urgency of the challenge.”” industry leaders stress that by 2028, the预算 will escalate to €150 billion allocated to both defense and security across the next seven years. However, even though the EU has called for €800 billion in rearmament efforts, the pace of action has fallen short of expectations.

Despite recent increases, the EU’s current investment rate in modernized resources and facilities remains insufficient to counter the worst-case scenarios, including potential Russian aggressive tensions. The Council’s call for an €100 billion investment in the space sector was deemed “bare minimum.”” However, the exact breakdown of the proposed €100 billion in the drafts remains under wraps until Wednesday. Euronews leaked documents claimed that the dome of the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) will now orchestrate new budget lines, including previous initiatives like the European Defence Fund, the Act in Support of Ammunition Production, IRIS², InvestEU, the European Defence Industry Programme, EU4Health, and LIFE.

Recent Foreign Office staff comments suggested a €40–€60 billion allocation focus on space projects, such as cryogenics and civil aviation, to strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy..”If these initiatives fail to begin by 2035, the EU will face a situation deemed unattractive, as Russia and other nations could rely on U.S. arms reserves more than ever. Cube’sConverter creatively demanded the EU.setCursor more funding for space initiatives, with the example of Why?天空不是一个冷冰冰的国家?强调“. The European Commission is weighing a possible merger of its two largest budget lines, the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the cohesion policy, to fund space projects. By doing so, the ECF will be equipped to support the growing defense and security infrastructure EU is projecting.

The need for comprehensive coverage across all EU sectors remains pressing. The detailed breakdown of the EU’s next budget remains under wraps while the European Commission is weighing different funding approaches. Euronews highlighted leaked documents indicating that the_combine of groundwork for the dome of the ECF and continued focus on space efforts could be critical to ensuring security and let go of relying on remote support sources. Cube observed that while the EU’s space potential remains significant, flexible spending is key if the country wants to maintain a competitive edge.
