WHILE many of us have been making the most of the heatwave in paddling pools in our gardens, the royal family have been enjoying their annual trip to Balmoral.
Members of the Royal Family famously travel to Queen Elizabeth II’s Scottish estate each summer, to spend time with their relatives and take a break from their royal duties.

The trip is also an opportunity for relatives who don’t ordinarily spend much time together to bond, with a close friendship apparently having been formed between Lady Louise Windsor and Princess Charlotte.
Lady Louise – the 18-year-old daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex – is reported to be Queen Elizabeth’s “favourite grandchild”.
And on a previous summer jaunt to Balmoral, Lady Louise took on an important role in encouraging an interest in art in seven-year-old Princess Charlotte – the daughter of Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.
“The Queen loves the fact that Louise and James (Louise’s younger brother) relish their time at Balmoral, and she has become particularly close to Louise, who seems to have become her favourite grandchild, closely followed by James,” an insider previously told The Sun.
“Louise also endeared herself to everyone by looking after William and Kate’s children when they were up here.
“Louise loves drawing and sketching and was very patiently trying to get Charlotte to do pictures of rabbits and deer.”
Lady Louise has long had an interest in art, and apparently has a keen eye for drawing.
According to royal commentator Ian Lloyd, Lady Louise could further pursue her interest in art if she opts against becoming a full-time working member of the Royal Family.
“Lady Louise has her own talent she may wish to pursue, she may wish to be an artist like Margaret’s daughter and spend her time doing that,” Lloyd told the Daily Express.
Princess Margaret’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto studied art at the Camberwell School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools.
She exhibits under the name Sarah Armstrong-Jones and has won two awards for her artwork.
And Lady Louise’s “obvious artistic skill” is also said to have led to Queen Elizabeth allowing her to “look through some of the collection of Queen Victoria’s Highlands sketches”, which are kept at Balmoral, an insider previously told The Sun.
