A lot of people are asking how long it has taken Scotland to get to level zero well, level four restrictions actually came back after Christmas. The United Kingdom went into lockdown on 23rd March of 2020 and, over the summer, this was actually supposed to be East as the number of cases and hospital admissions dropped. A lot of people were expecting to be free, but this wasn’t the case. When cases started to creep back up again, in a lot of pockets of the country, there were few restrictions that were added at the start of autumn.
In the month of May, mainland Scotland, with the exception of Glasgow actually dropped down to level two, because Glasgow had a lot of cases of Covid. The following month, other areas also dropped to level one and a lot of islands move down to level zero. But, 13 areas, with a combined population of 2.3 million people remained in level two of the Covid restrictions. The entire country was actually due to move to level zero on 28 June, but it was delayed because of the prevalence of a new strain of the virus that was dubbed the Delta variant of the virus that was first identified in the country of India.
The entire country is actually set to come out of lockdown restrictions on July 19. Everybody is actually celebrating, being allowed to come out of restrictions, but a lot of people should still get vaccinated. Only 60% of the population of the United Kingdom is currently vaccinated. Around 70% of the population have received one dose at least. But, the way out of the pandemic is still a very long route which we have to take, without doing something that is not recommended, like going to college areas. Just because there are no lockdown restrictions, does not mean that the pandemic is over. We are still in this pandemic, and there are still people infected with this particular virus. You need to make sure that you are careful because there is a more contagious strain than is circulating.
