‘Beautiful’ boy, six, dead in horror Cheshire crash as ‘drug driver’ arrested

On a quiet Sunday morning in the peaceful community of Ellesmere Port, a sudden and devastating event shattered the ordinary calm. At approximately 11:40 AM on Anchor Drive, near the familiar grounds of the Whitby Sports and Social Club, a black Infiniti FX30D struck a six-year-old boy. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the child, accompanied by frantic family members, was swiftly taken to the hospital. Despite all efforts, he was later transferred to the Countess of Chester Hospital where, succumbing to his injuries, he tragically passed away. The Cheshire Police confirmed the heartbreaking news, noting that his next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specialist officers during this unimaginable time.

The boy has been lovingly named by his family as Kanan-Jay. In the wake of this loss, a poignant tribute has emerged on a JustGiving page, created to support his grieving parents. The appeal, written by a family member, speaks directly from the heart: “Please can you all take the time to help my beautiful sister at this devastating time who sadly lost her beautiful little boy on Sunday in a horrific accident age six years old.” It continues, pleading for support to give “my nephew the best send off that he deserves.” The message concludes with a raw expression of communal grief: “No words can ever come close to the pain we’re all feeling as a family. Sleep easy Kanan-Jay. YNWA [You’ll Never Walk Alone].” This sentiment, a promise of eternal solidarity, underscores the profound bond within the family and their wider community.

The response to this tragedy has been both immediate and deeply moving. The JustGiving fundraiser has already garnered nearly £7,000, a testament to the outpouring of support from strangers and neighbors alike, all united in a desire to alleviate the practical burdens of funeral costs for the stricken family. On Anchor Drive itself, the physical landscape of the accident has transformed into a site of mourning and remembrance. Residents have placed flowers and handwritten notes at the location, creating a spontaneous memorial. One note, capturing the universal anguish, simply reads: “Rest in peace little man. Forever 6.” These acts of kindness represent a community grappling with a shared loss, striving to offer solace where words fail.

In parallel with this wave of emotional support, a legal investigation is unfolding. Cheshire Police arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of causing a death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving otherwise in accordance with a licence. He has since been released on bail as inquiries continue. Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe, leading the investigation, stated: “This was a tragic incident in which a young child lost his life, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.” The police are actively appealing to the public for witnesses, anyone who saw the collision on Anchor Drive, or who might possess video footage—including dashcam or mobile phone recordings—of the incident. They are also seeking information from those present when the child was initially treated near the sports club, hoping to piece together a complete picture of those critical moments.

Behind the procedural details of the investigation lies the immense human cost: a family irrevocably broken. The tribute page reveals Kanan-Jay as not just a victim in a news report, but a “beautiful little boy,” a nephew, a son. His aunt’s plea reveals the stark reality for his parents—a journey from ordinary Sunday morning to profound nightmare. The funds raised and the notes left are not just gestures; they are lifelines of practical aid and emotional acknowledgment for a mother and father navigating the worst possible loss. The phrase “Forever 6” on the roadside note is a haunting encapsulation of a life and a future abruptly halted, a childhood frozen in time.

As the community of Ellesmere Port comes together—through donations, memorials, and cooperation with the police—the story of Kanan-Jay becomes one of collective heartbreak and resilience. The ongoing police investigation seeks justice and answers, while the family’s tribute seeks honor and closure for a beloved child. In the space between these pursuits, a little boy’s memory is being held tenderly by all who have been touched by this tragedy. The final words of the family’s message, “YNWA,” serve as a gentle vow: in the long, difficult path ahead, his loved ones, and the community that mourns with them, will indeed never walk alone.
