The group’s open letter, signed by 70 individuals including those who lost loved ones in terrorist attacks like the Manchester Arena bombing, calls for urgent action to stop extremists from using AI to plan atrocities. Research shows AI chatbots can easily assist with attack planning, providing practical, actionable advice on creating weapons and toxins. They demand legislation for AI safety, transparency, independent oversight, accountability for tech companies. The government has said it takes these warnings seriously and is scrutinising high-risk AI tools.
