More than 1,000 pubs close in UK in one year – and it’s about to get worse

The UK faces a growing crisis as more pubs are closing, according to CAMRA, a campaign group for pubs. In the first three months of 2025 alone, over 300 pubs across England, Scotland, and Wales closed, an increase from their similarly marked-calender year. The campaign also reported that 1,062 pubs were left empty last year, following a drop in rates from £75% to £40% in April. This move has caused additional financial pressure on employers, with national insurance contributions jumps of up to £1.9 billion and business rate hikes across hospitality. As a result, concern has risen about the future of the industry, particularly in terms of public support for local communities and measures to assist at-risk watering holes.

The campaign “Your Pub Needs You” champions the concept that pubs are an essential part of’aSocial Fabric’and are a home for a community. An increasing number of authorities and authorities are resolute in their demand for £1000 funding for pubs, while also calling for changes in rental policies and support for local businesses that exceed expectations. Campaign director Ash Corbett-Collins emphasized the urgent need for action from the government, as increases in employer’s national insurance and business rates have pushed public金山.erts to step into some last-minute role in securing their back, given the growing challenges of managing the crisis.

This year, the business rates cross a critical threshold at 75%, with leaders facing decisions under tight constraints. A further £1.9 billion Ministering through SMEs, the increase in salary paid to staff of new businesses, and a £500 million increase in business rates. These cuts have not only affect the income of local residents but also hamper the sustainability of employment and job creation, which have been halted earlier. A third of hospitality businesses grouped together by industry have seen their trading hoursReduced significantly because of tighter-{tied}to-hire{).
