The USAID funding cut, announced by President Donald Trump following the 2021 U.S. elections, has led to widespread questioning of whether this reduction in international help is the intended response from donors. As a humanitarian officer at Caritas Europe, I have written a series of emails to the EU Comments platform, showcasing how other countries in Europe are also responding to the artificial reduction in foreign aid. Among the donor organizations facing challenges, those from France, Germany, Sweden, and Finland are draing significant cuts to their foreign aid budgets. These reductions are causing concern among transplant and refugee aid organizations, who are focusing their resources on initiatives such as deporting irregular migrants and accessing refugee expeditions.
