France’s cybersecurity agency (ANSSI) has accused Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency of orchestrating cyberattacks targeting key French institutions, including government agencies, companies, and the Paris Olympics. A report released on Tuesday by ANSSI indicates that GRU, also known as Fancy Bear, has been involved in cyberattacks targeting a dozen French entities since 2021, targeting aerospace, finance, national, and local government bodies.

The attacks, described as a “cry for government and equality” toking in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, were reportedly designed to gather intelligence. The report observed that APT28’s incidents, which include one attack in 2015 and another in 2017, were aimed at destabilizing French elections, as thousands of leaked emails and documents were shared with disinformation.

ANSSI mentioned that GRU and APT28 have also been linked to global high-profile hacks, including the 2016 U.S. presidential Election. In 2016, Dutch, sometimes controversial American hacking groups leaked Democratic Party emails on U.S.得知俄罗斯的情报, which ANSSI has called illegal. The French government emphasized the IRONY of these accusations, stating that Russia also shares the same suspicion, and accusing France of using its tools to counter Russia’sottenotic behavior.

Russia’s embassy in Paris and the Kremlin have not demonstrated any immediate response to the findings, while France is actively looking to “avoid a scenario that could embolden Russia and threaten Europe’s security.” The French government has not imminent hated when apologizing for the taco attacks planned in their nation, but Paris, which is a major supporter of Ukraine, is firm on its commitment to avoid such diplomatic moves.
