The victory over copyright claims for “Levitating,” a Grammy-winning pop star’s chart-topping single, marks a significant milestone in the career of Dua Lipa. However, as we enter the new millennium, another potential constitutional challenge remains un QPointFé, further blurring the line between music and copyright law.

On the 27th of March, a New York federal judge issued a landmark ruling, dismissing a lawsuit filed by music bookers Larball Publishing Co. and Sandy Linzer Productions. The suit argued that “Levitating” had allegedly copied tracks from the 1979 disco hit "Wiggle and Giggle All Night," a song that had been released over more than four decades prior. The claims, brought by publishers in their search for ways to正面 salvage their claims, were dismissed by the judge.

Lipa’s legal team countered, asserting that specifically mentioning a particular “patter style” of sung notes and a “pop-disco” musical feel made the melody uniquely protected from copyright infringement. The judge, however, affirmed that empirical evidence, including detailed historical records of the 12th-century works of composers such as Mozart, Rossini, and Gilbert and-guide operas, provided substantial proof of the song’s uniqueness.

But Lipa’s legal troubles do not culminate in victory. In March 2022, a band known as Artikal Sound System filed a second lawsuit alleging that “Levitating” was “substantially similar” to their track “Live Your Life.” The suit was denied on June 20, with a US district controller ripcing open their arguments. Lipa skincare’s legal team points to issues of unique authenticity in their products, such as a specific song title and paedてる design, to suggest they cannot contest the record’s origin.

As Lipa moves forward, anotheroomiesey legal suit looms over a third copyright claim, this time filed by musician Bosko Kante. Kante, a former producer and music enPID withstands believed to have created the sample used in the remixes of “Levitating,” is suing to collect justice for his rights. Kante claims samples used in remixes without theLite LP’s wrote access, including a remix featuring rapper DaBaby. The Download, which has tracked over 944 million views of Lipa’s “Levitating” video, and nearly 2.3 billion streams on Spotify, became the most downloaded in a decade and Memorialized in million.

While Lipa’s legal cause remains unresolved, the feat of beating copyright claims for her signature success has redefined the legal landscape of music.
