Greece wildfires: Tourists and locals flee burning Athens – and islands including Crete

The tragic incident[s] involving a major fire in the Greek capital, Alexandria, has sparked widespread panic and action across the country.

In the first week, climate conditions proved devastating, with temperatures surging well above 45°C, exacerbating the flames and casting doubt on containment. Residents in Kryoneri, a suburban area near Athens, received SMS alerts urging them to stay away from crowded areas and dispose of their possessions.
