Only known script of Jean-Luc Godard’s New Wave classic ‘Breathless’ to be auctioned

A groundbreaking discovery has emerged from the estate of French film producer Georges de Beauregard, marking the first known 70-page script from the iconic filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. According to various sources, this manuscript, estimates at between €400,000 and €600,000, is expected to conleave over the next six decades. It was found and is set to be auctioned by Sotheby’s Paris from June 4 to June 18, 2025, alongside other materials. This piece is expected to attract interest with its historical weight in the film industry and its pivotal role in the光影 of the French New Wave movement.

Godard, a pioneer in cinematic innovation, rejected formal scripts favoring experimental dialogue and natural attitudes.
